Landscape Fabric is a porous woven plastic fabric that allows water and air to pass through it. It is used under mulch & gravel to help control weeds, by keeping their roots from getting anchored in the soil. It is also a Ground Cover Cloth used in nurseries under potted plants.

It can also be used as a soil separator or filter fabric in general purpose drainage fields.
